Description
Sustainably wild-harvested by hand and sun-dried, this Sea Moss (also known as Irish Moss) is an algae containing high quantities of the polysaccharide carrageenan. It gives it a characteristic gelling quality. Carrageenan, used widely in food production, is sourced from this unique moss.
It is useful in respiratory and digestive ailments and known to contain many vitamins and minerals including Vitamin A, E, F, J, and calcium, potassium, and sulfur. Make into a gel and incorporate into smoothies, desserts, therapeutic remedies, and other recipes.
Full Spectrum Sea Moss contains purple, green, and gold variations. This will provide the strength of all three combined. Purple sea moss contains high levels of the antioxidant Anthocyanin, while green sea moss contains high levels of chlorophyll. Gold sea moss has a milder taste and scent and is rich in nutrients.
Because we don't process our wildcrafted sea moss outside of sun bleaching, some inconsistent colouration may occur. You can expect some natural salt crystallization on the surface of the moss and the occasional dark green, brown, or black spots. This is not an indication of poor quality but a natural variation intrinsic to our non-toxic processing.
To make Sea Moss into a gel:
Inspect moss for any foreign material. Rinse very well. Place cleaned moss in a bowl, cover with filtered water, and soak for 8 hours or overnight. The moss will become rubbery. Rinse again, and place the clean moss into a saucepan. Cover with water and simmer for 12-15 minutes. Cool completely, place in a blender, and blend until smooth. Pour into a sealable jar and refrigerate.
Those with fish or shellfish allergies may want to avoid this product.
